 Spelling - Correct Letter Sequences

Assessment Description

Curriculum Based Measurement spelling is a standardized assessment given to students in a group. Students are read a new spelling word once every seven seconds and asked to spell the words the best they can. The total correct letter sequences (letters in the correct place) each student is able to write for the all the words is the student's raw score. This raw score is entered on a chart, Pocket CBM, or online program such as Dibels or AIMSweb.

Administration Frequency

CBM spelling can be administered as a benchmark passage four times a year or weekly to chart numerical growth progress. It is appropriate for any grade level, but used most frequently in elementary schools.
