  Standards

CBM is linked to standards in two ways; target links and skill links.

Target links refer to "target" students must meet to attain proficiency on another assessment. Links below show targets for Far Below Basic to Advanced on the California Standards Tests:

Grade 2 Math                                               Grade 4 Math

Grade 2 Language Arts                                 Grade 4 Language Arts

Grade 3 Math                                               Grade 5 Math

Grade 3 Language Arts                                  Grade 5 Language Arts

Skill links refer to the basic skills CBM covers and are tested directly during each administration. The inclusion of these skills are listed below:

CBM Standards Links by Skills

CBM Assessment

Area Addressed

Standard Addressed

Reading Fluency Language Arts Word analysis, fluency, and vocabulary
Math Basic Math Math Number sense
Writing Writing Language Arts Writing applications
Spelling Spelling Language Arts Written conventions

The second method to link standards to CBM is targeted links. This involves establishing benchmarks for each CBM period based on the results from an outside assessment. For example, to find out what score students should have in November to achieve a "Proficient" on a state test, we would look at students that achieved a Proficient score in the past and research their CBM scores for November. This group of scores would indicate the target for students to receive a Proficient score in the future.
