 Written Expression

Assessment Description

Curriculum Based Measurement written expression is a standardized assessment that is administered to students whole-group. Students are timed for three minutes with one minute of "think time." Total letters (fluency), total words written (fluency), total correct word sequences (fluency and grammar), and/or correctly spelled words (grammar) can be collected.  This raw score is entered on a chart, Pocket CBM, or online program such as Dibels or AIMSweb.

Administration Frequency

CBM written expression can be administered as a benchmark passage four times a year or weekly to chart numerical growth progress. It is appropriate for any grade level, but used most frequently in elementary schools.
